WHAT IS AGING IN PLACE?

"Aging in place" means remaining in one's home safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age, income or ability level. It means the pleasure of living in a familiar environment throughout one's maturing years and the ability to enjoy the familiar daily rituals and the special events that enrich all our lives. It means the reassurance of being able to call a house a "home for a lifetime", according to the National Association of Home Builders.

At Talmadge Construction, we are uniquely set up to address the question of accessibility and aging in place.  Jeff Talmadge is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist through the National Association of Home Builders.  Our design team can work with you on your remodeling plans suggesting areas that can be prepared to accept grab bars, zero step entries and showers, stacking closets for future elevator installation, kitchen appliance placement for comfort and safety before the need for these items is apparent.

Industry trends are focusing on the question of the 76 million Baby Boomers who are going to reach age 65 in the next 10 years.  Manufacturers are designing bath and kitchen fixtures that are as beautiful as they are functional.  Designers are looking at widening doorways and using solid flooring without thresholds, as part of standard practices.
