Good recommendations are very important in contractor selection. Contact at least three of each contractor's references. Ask the following:

• Were you satisfied with the work of this contractor?
• Was the contractor easy to work with on a day to day basis?
• Was there any confusion about what was included in the contract price?
• Was it easy to make changes along the way?
• Did the workers arrive when the contractor said they would?
• Did the workers clean the site on a regular basis?
• Were there any problems getting the final details completed?
• Did the contractor finish on time?
• Would you hire this contractor again?
