Client Needs

Streamlined and striking is the way to describe this contemporary galley-style kitchen remodel, designed by Talmadge Construction. These Soquel homeowners, who are repeat clients, wanted an updated look for their ranch-style home that would maximize the use of the kitchen and dining area to include storage, plenty of prep space, and seating.

Our clients also came to us with a vision of utilizing a breakfast nook in their tight space—an L-shaped banquette that would solve their need for a simple and calming multi-use dining area.

Talmadge Solution

Through creative problem-solving, we were able to dramatically improve the family’s lifestyle without having to demolish large parts of the home. The new, contemporary design made better use of a pathway from the kitchen to the dining area, improving the lighting and maximizing the seating.

Talmadge built an L-shaped bench to maximize seating and storage in a tight space. The built-in benches included hidden storage in the seats with lift-up tops and functional slide-out drawers under the seats for easy access. Built-in cabinets above the seating area were thoughtfully designed into the space, using every square inch, to store essential kitchen or dining supplies.

The custom cabinetry and counter space were enhanced by the addition of new showroom floor model appliances, including a Miele refrigerator, and Sharp microwave drawer—a creative solution to combat the prolonged lead times caused by the pandemic.

The custom shaker-style cabinetry in vertical grain Doug-Fir pairs beautifully with the green Quartzite countertops, matching Quartzite slab backsplash, and onyx tile accent strip creating a striking contrast. Open shelving, opaque glass cabinet doors, and porcelain tile flooring add character and balance to the otherwise streamlined space.

Result

These Soquel homeowners were extremely happy with the updated look, increased storage, and overall improved functionality of their kitchen and dining area. The space will be even more beautiful when their custom cushions and table arrive!
